The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) are the principal organizations for missionary animation and cooperation in the Catholic Church under the direction of the Pope.
The main and common purpose of these is to promote the missionary awareness and cooperation of the whole Church among God’s people.
The four Societies are Society of Propagation of the Faith, Holy Childhood Society, Society of St. Peter Apostle and Pontifical Mission Union (PMU)
VISION:
The PMS envisages a vibrant missionary Church in Tanzania, in which all areas of people of God are aware of their missionary vocation (1Peter 2.3) and are actively involved in the Church’s Universal mission of Evangelization.
MISSION:
These Societies play a role of directing, co-coordinating and promoting in all dioceses the activities of Evangelisation, Missionary Animation, Formation and Co-operation in their various forms and maintain relations with the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Bishops’ Conference in order to guarantee unity of action for the building up of the Church.
GOALS:
To promote missionary awareness in particular Churches, so that the faithful may personally be involved in the missionary activities ‘Ad gentes’ (Mk; 16:15-16) and be committed to cooperate in the universal missionary activity of the Church.
To foster and organize collaboration of the local clergy, Institutions of consecrated life, Missionary institutes and Societies of Apostolic life, for the Missionary Animation of the faithful and for the work of Missionary Cooperation in close union with the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS).
To promote the Missionary Animation activities in every diocese.
To encourage the collection of offerings for the Universal Solidarity Fund which support the Holy Father in the Evangelization of the whole Church. The collections are made in Mission and Vocation Sundays and the day of Holy childhood.
To encourage the initiatives of Missionary Animation and Cooperation and at the same time safeguard the Universal and Primary character of the PMS.
